We've had many complaints about the 4Runner's lack of power, and feel of hesitation when getting on the gas. Jason Burtman, of Burtman Industries just doesn't let any product get in the door. This is an upgrade that you can feel with normal everyday driving, not just on the track at redline like most other performance upgrades! What is the Sprint Booster? Most cars in the 21st century have replaced the more conventional metal throttle cable for an ECM (Electronic Control Module) that translates how hard the pedal is pushed into an electronic signal in order to provide power to the wheels. This is also known as "Drive-By-Wire", and can have the unfortunate downside of delayed response and subdued acceleration. This of course can create problems in certain situations such as up-hill starts, quick gear changes, and passing. The Sprint Booster FIXES this delayed throttle response on your 4Runner by providing increased acceleration time (eliminating delay) on the drive-by- wire unit by continuously measuring and converting the digital signal and providing the ECM (Electronic Control Module) with a new and altered signal for much quicker response. This improves response, increases pedal input sensitivity and delivers more impressive off the line performance you can really feel. It's a simple plug-n-play installation which takes a few minutes and delivers instant response throughout the power band. If you are still confused, simply put, this device amplifies the signal from your gas pedal to the throttle body. It eliminates the delay that is inherent on the Drive by Wire technology on certain vehicles. The 4Runner, being one of them. At low revs, the engine responds at approximately half the time in comparison to before, see chart above The delay time accelerating in 3rd and 4th gear and the engine in the mid-range, is almost zero. This is my second Sprint Booster (Thanks Jason!) My first was a V2 SB that had 3 settings, off, street and race. Like another post here, I had mine on a tuned Mini Cooper with a 6 speed manual. The stock throttle response was crazy slow on the Mini especially when comparing it to the last "wired" throttle control car I had. It seriously transformed the feel and response in that vehicle making shifting much smoother and making quick acceleration feel as it should. The V3 SB on my 19 takes a major chunk out of the lethargic throttle response and the ability to have more adjustability on the newer version is really nice. I've been tweaking it here and there but for now I've kept it on the green 7 setting. I agree it's pricey, but since this is my daily driver, the SB is going to be the only modification I do to the engine since it really helps the driveability. JAMES GEORGE 04-26-2019 01:45pm
So, I took a sip of the Kool-Aid. Then after installing I drank the whole pitcher. Like others have said the install takes all of about 15 minutes. The first ten of which are spent with the door open waiting for the CANBUS system to work itself out. I took this opportunity to find a spot for the controller. Once the truck sat for 10 minutes I used the Squeeze-Push-Pull method and the accelerator pedal connector popped right off. I have only driven for about and hour so far but I like what I am experiencing. Before I would tell the truck "Go!" and it would respond "Okay. I hear what you are saying but let's put a pin in that thought and discuss other ideas we can try together". Now I tell the truck "Go!" and it responds "OK!". I started at Green 9 and for now have settled on Red 5. I jumped around a little between Red 5 and Red 9 but for now I will keep it on Red 5 and see how I feel after some more seat time. The real test was letting the wife drive it and see her reaction and it passed the wife test with flying colors. I asked her to drive my truck to dinner tonight. After pulling out of the driveway and then taking off from the stop sign at the end of our street she says "What's wrong with your truck?" I responded "What do you mean 'what's wrong with it?" To which she said "It doesn't suck to drive anymore" Did Sprint Booster give me more horsepower? No, and I didn't expect it to. Did it dramatically change the driving experience? Absolutely. At risk of sounding like a fan boy I absolutely LOVE the sprint booster and now I can't imagine my 4 runner without it. I debated the purchase for a year and now wish I would have installed it sooner. I think I've settled on the green sport setting 5 after about 30 minutes of testing. Just to make sure it wasn't a placebo effect I turned it off and accelerated...there's definitely a big difference. I ordered it last week and Jason shipped it right away. I removed the gas pedal with the 2 bolts during the install, so everything was much easier to reach. Took about 15 minutes to install, plus the 10 minutes of mandatory leave your door open time.
