|So I ordered a sprint booster from Jason B at Burtman Industries, and I have to say.... I was pretty skeptical, thinking its snake oil, hogwash, etc....but I have to admit I love this F@#$@# thing. Basically, the one thing I hated about the 4runner was the artificial throttle lag, and the sprint booster got rid of it, and on top of that, lets you set the sensitivity of the throttle response to your own liking. This is probably my favorite mod as of now because it got rid of something i HATED and then IMPROVED it.
1. no more throttle lag.
2. no more trying to time your passing in bumper to bumper traffic
3. allows you to dial in your throttle sensitivity to match your stump leg
4. easy to install, and stupidly easy to adjust.
5. puts the smile back in my commute.
6. pedal lockout which acts like a immobilizer when you need to park your car for extended periods of time.
7. set it and forget it once you figure out what works for you.
1. not sure if its worth that kind of coin if the current throttle response doesn't bother you.
2. 18 settings mean you kinda have to figure out what works for you.
3. you are basically paying somebody to fix a problem that toyota knowingly created.
4. maybe worse gas mileage, I don't know about that..I think it helps my gas mileage because I'm not mashing the gas pedal anymore to pass (now I try n feather the throttle like a normal human).
Lastly, Jason was a pleasure to deal with, even going as far to actually calling me to tell me my order was going to be slightly delayed. Yup, dood actually called me before a problem can arise, and yeah. he actually calls (not email, not text, and most importantly not disappearing with your money for weeks on end).
Also, Jason was the cheapest after tax and shipping (even beating amazon).
|I was on the fence for months reading threads and researching as much as I could about this mod before I got off the fence. This was mainly because I never owned a drive by wire vehicle before personally. I was also afraid this was just another one of those “performance chips” that all over eBay that are nothing more than a resistor or something that does very little in the way of performance other than some that just advance timing a bit. This device completely changed the feel of my driving experience in my runner, which had plenty of torque, but just didn’t feel as fast as it should. Now, every time I get in it, I’m happy with the performance and it now feels like it should. The cool thing is that you can tailor the throttle response to suit your driving style. I tried several settings, one at a time, and left them for a couple of days to evaluate before moving on until I found the sweet spot for me. If my daughter or wife were to borrow the truck though, I would likely put it to a more stock setting just because they wouldn’t be used to driving with that level of responsiveness. For me personally, it was the best money I’ve spent on any mod so far to this truck, other than maybe the exhaust, which also added greatly to the driving experience. This was the missing link that brought everything else together, and I’m sure most just assume (like I did initially) that it’s just a snake oil product. I like it so much that if it ever broke, I’d HAVE TO replace it immediately, lol!|
|At risk of sounding like a fan boy I absolutely LOVE the sprint booster and now I can't imagine my 4 runner without it. I debated the purchase for a year and now wish I would have installed it sooner.
I think I've settled on the green sport setting 5 after about 30 minutes of testing. Just to make sure it wasn't a placebo effect I turned it off and accelerated...there's definitely a big difference.
I ordered it last week and Jason shipped it right away. I removed the gas pedal with the 2 bolts during the install, so everything was much easier to reach. Took about 15 minutes to install, plus the 10 minutes of mandatory leave your door open time.|
|Just ordered from Jason. This is my second 4runner and although I'm fairly satisfied with the power on and off road, there have been many times when I've either been trying to pull out into traffic, merge onto the highway or get around an 18 wheeler and the lack of throttle response has left me in some hairy situations. Looking forward to trying it out.|
|So, I took a sip of the Kool-Aid. Then after installing I drank the whole pitcher. Like others have said the install takes all of about 15 minutes. The first ten of which are spent with the door open waiting for the CANBUS system to work itself out. I took this opportunity to find a spot for the controller. Once the truck sat for 10 minutes I used the Squeeze-Push-Pull method and the accelerator pedal connector popped right off. I have only driven for about and hour so far but I like what I am experiencing.
Before I would tell the truck "Go!" and it would respond "Okay. I hear what you are saying but let's put a pin in that thought and discuss other ideas we can try together". Now I tell the truck "Go!" and it responds "OK!". I started at Green 9 and for now have settled on Red 5. I jumped around a little between Red 5 and Red 9 but for now I will keep it on Red 5 and see how I feel after some more seat time.
The real test was letting the wife drive it and see her reaction and it passed the wife test with flying colors. I asked her to drive my truck to dinner tonight. After pulling out of the driveway and then taking off from the stop sign at the end of our street she says "What's wrong with your truck?" I responded "What do you mean 'what's wrong with it?" To which she said "It doesn't suck to drive anymore" Did Sprint Booster give me more horsepower? No, and I didn't expect it to. Did it dramatically change the driving experience? Absolutely.
